Children are placed in emergency Foster care when they are removed from home at short notice and plans are need to be made for their long term care. These placements usually happen at very short notice so a great deal of flexibility is required on behalf of the Foster Carer.

An Emergency placement usually lasts a few days while plans are being made but can sometimes go on to become a short term or a long term placement. It is important in a placement like this that a sense of normality is established and a safe and secure environment is provided during what can be a stressful and upsetting time for a child. The child could be in distress and in need of a lot of reassurance.
