Looked after children are placed in long term Foster Care if they cannot return to their birth family for any reason. These placements allow the child or young person to grow up and flourish in a supportive environment whilst often, still maintaining contact with their birth family. The child or young person will remain in the long term fostering placement until they reach adulthood.
Long term Foster Carers are expected to be a role model and a positive influence on a young person, including them in family life and helping them reach their full potential so they can face their future with confidence.
Teaching life skills such as personal hygiene, treating others with respect and becoming financially independent are just a few of the expectations of a long term Foster Carer.
